Monthly 929 Meeting with Rachel Danziger
A Prophet for a Gilded Age: Isaiah and the Dangers of Prosperity (Isaiah 1-39)
The prophet Isaiah lived during a time of unprecedented prosperity, a prosperity that blinded his contemporaries to social ills and brewing threats. How did Isaiah try to heal this blindness? What strategies did he use to open people’s eyes? And what can we learn from his campaign today, when the Divine no longer speaks to us directly?
Come and join us for a discussion of prosperity, prophecy, and what they mean today.
Keeping on schedule with the daily chapters is not necessary for participation in the class.
Rachel Sharansky Danziger grew up in Jerusalem, where she completed degrees in philosophy and history and taught Tanach to new immigrants. Her MA focused on the way 18th century American protoevangelicals told their personal stories, and what their stories tell us about their experiences of emotions and self. Rachel explored similar connections between stories, religion, and emotions in workshops she led that combined Torah study and creative writing. She blogs about Judaism, Israel and parenting for the Times of Israel, Kveller, and other online venues.
